Thinking ahead: For a sustainable recovery from COVID-19 (World Bank blogs)

For the World Bank’s blog “Development and a Changing Climate – From the frontlines of climate solutions” Stéphane Hallegatte, Lead Economist with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) at the World Bank, and Stephen Hammer, Advisor on Global Partnerships and Strategy to the World Bank’s Vice President for Sustainable Development and the Global Director of the World Bank’s Climate Change team, elaborate on how responses to Covid-19 can foster a sustainable economic recovery. While they argue that the initial focus had to be put on the strengthening of health systems and social safety nets, the second phase of economic recovery would have to concentrate on sustainability measures. On this basis, they propose a “Green Stimulus Package”. To read the full blog entry, refer to the World Bank blogs website.
