A coalition devoted to integrating economic, social and environmental considerations into the Belt and Road Initiative was launched this week. UN Environment and the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment are leading the Coalition, through which they seek to promote green infrastructure construction, green investment, green finance and protect the environment. It will also serve as an inclusive and voluntary international network, a platform for policy dialogue and communication that will facilitate and ameliorate data and green technology exchange, environmental protection and mitigation of pollution.
The mission of the Coalition is to integrate sustainable development, particularly environmental sustainability, international standards and best practices across the five priorities of the Belt and Road Initiative: (i) policy coordination, (ii) infrastructure, (ii) trade, (iv) financial integration and (v) cultural exchanges.
