Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission is concluding its five-year mandate and has released its final report–Bridging the Gap: Real Options for Meeting Canada’s 2030 GHG Target. In this report, the Commission recognizes that there are only a finite number of approaches that the Canadian policy-makers can choose from. The fiscal (and administrative) toolbox essentially consists of: regulations, subsidies, and carbon pricing. However, the details of how governments design and implement those policies matters just as much as the choice of approach. Thus, in this report the Commission offers recommendations for how to implement each instrument in order to optimize its efficiency. To read the full report, follow the link.
