Proposed oil and coal company handouts incentivize drilling, undermine climate action

13 July 2017 – A group of US Senators introduced the Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Act to extend and more than double tax credits to fossil fuel companies for capturing CO2 and pumping it into wells to extract more oil. In a statement, Janet Redman, US Policy Director at Oil Change International, condemns the move and argues that the measure would be great for the fossil fuel industry but a disaster for the climate, since these handouts would prolong the economic viability of fossil fuel extraction.
