India plans to halve taxes on coal and increase taxes on solar cells and modules

25 May 2017 – The world’s third-largest greenhouse gas emitting country said it would lower the duty on coal from July 1 and impose a new 18% tax on solar cells and modules as part of a broader tax overhaul. The measure’s biggest beneficiary is believed to be the state-run Coal India Ltd mining company that has recently been facing overcapacity problems.
