The role of local authorities in tackling climate change is increasingly recognized. A number of local authorities have committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by implementing effective local climate policies in several sectors. Local fiscal policies systems can plan an important role in incentivising private actors and addressing key sectors such as residential buildings, services, and transport.
Under the Local Policies for Green Energy project (LOCAL4GREEN), a Handbook for Green Local Fiscal Policy Formulation has been elaborated by the MUSOL Foundation. The Handbook supports municipalities in implementing innovative local fiscal policies that aim to promote renewable energy sources. The handbook is available to download in English, French and Spanish on the LOCAL4GREEN website.
The project database also includes descriptions of local fiscal policies to promote renewable energy sources in several countries.
