This study looks at the energy transition in Indian Ocean island states and African countries lying on the Atlantic coast..
It explores roadmap options for the transition from unsustainable conventional energy sources to renewable energy in these countries. These include eliminating subsidies to fossil fuels, mobilizing investment in energy efficiency and
generation from renewable sources and mainstreaming the fossil fuel to renewable energy transition across all levels of policy planning. Lastly, the study considers how new coordinated and regional approaches to partnership and cooperation, including improved mechanisms for research, technology transfer and new approaches to financing, could catalyze the energy transition in Indian Ocean and African countries.
