Canada’s Federal Election Results Give Carbon Tax a Chance to Continue with Liberal Government

22 October 2019: Results from Canada’s federal election secured Prime Minister Justin Trudeau another term in power, although they did cost him a majority government. Overall, however, the vote has been hailed as a win for climate action – with as many as three quarters of the votes cast in support of parties with stong climate policies. The new parliament composition will surely mean the national price on pollution will survive, as will Bill C-69, the environmental assessment legislation.
