Update on Recent Progress in Reform of Inefficient Fossil-Fuel Subsidies that Encourage Wasteful Consumption 2021 (OECD, IEA)

In 2020, several countries committed publicly to carbon neutrality targets. However, some have also increased subsidies as part of rescue and recovery packages to the pandemic-induced crisis.

Revitalizing G20 action on fossil-fuel subsidy reform, this report is a contribution by the OECD and the IEA to G20 Environment, Climate and Energy Ministers for the Climate and Energy Joint Ministerial Meeting in Naples on 23 July 2021.

This report informs on latest trends in 2020 data on support for fossil fuels, and offers good practices and lessons learned emerging from country experiences, as reflected in the growing body of G20 peer reviews.
