Fiscal policy has a critical role to play in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and raising revenues for climate finance, fiscal consolidation, and other purposes. The Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been working on the appropriate design of tax policy to meet these duel objectives. This brief showcases some of the work and recent findings that the IMF has been conducting in terms of designing mitigation policies, climate finance, climate policy and recession, and energy subsidies.
