Fiscal policies to support sustainable agriculture (UNEP, 2019)

This policy brief explores the role of fiscal policies in creating an enabling framework for a more sustainable agriculture and food production system. The main arguments–illustrated through country examples–point to the fact that fiscal policies can create needed incentives through pricing mechanisms, generate substantial public revenues which can be used for supporting more sustainable practices in the sector (such as use of organic fertilizer), mobilize other sources of financing for sustainable agriculture and support countries’ climate commitments.
