IMF’s Ian Parry: Why the carbon tax makes sense (Podcast)

In this podcast, Ian Parry, IMF’s principal environmental fiscal policy expert, argues no environmental policies are more effective than carbon taxes. Mr. Parry says carbon taxes promote a full range of business- and individual-level responses for reducing emissions–like switching from coal to clean generation fuels and reducing the demand for electricity and transportation fuels. Importantly, carbon taxes, Mr. Parry asserts, can be administratively straightforward to implement. Mr. Parry is also an author of several research papers on carbon taxation and his recent article What Is Carbon Taxation? is published in the June 2019 edition of Finance and Development Magazine.
