Register here. Emissions trading systems have grown in recent years as a tool to finance climate change mitigation and adaptation activities, and to promote sustainable development. By setting a price on carbon emissions, they create incentives for investment in low-carbon technologies, rendering these more attractive than their fossil-based counterparts. Revenues from emissions trading are also increasingly used to fund public investment in low-carbon innovation, de-risking early-stage technologies and helping to scale up necessary mitigation options. What have we learned to date about the intersection of emissions trading and finance? How are carbon markets shaping climate-related investment?
