GSI Webinar on Fisheries Subsidies: How can leaders use the trade system to deliver for people and planet?

The International Institute for Sustainable Development, the PEW Charitable Trusts and the International Chamber of Commerce are holding an online discussion on the topic of “Fisheries Subsidies: How can leaders use the trade system to deliver for people and planet?” as part of the WEF MC2020. SDG traget 14.6 sets a deadline of 2020 for governments to agree on rules for fisheries subsidies at the WTO, rules which could help to restore the economic and environmental health of global fisheries and re-assert the value of a multilateral trading system. This high-level discussion will lay out the environmental imperative of a meaningful deal, and will highlight the political challenges that leaders, including the incoming Director-General of the WTO, will need to overcome and why doing so would show that the trade system can deliver in an immediate, tangible way, for people and planet.
