Tackling pollution and its impacts has been made a priority in the Chinese government strategy. In addition, clean tech and environmental industries have been in rapid expansion over the past decade, which attracts international firms. International firms can provide engineering and design services, along with operational expertise and investment. However, in China, they face market access restrictions, and preferential treatment is given to national players. Micah Hostetter argues that partnerships will be needed to capitalize on expertise from both national and international firms.
