Climate finance aims to enable climate compatible development (CCD). However, in developing countries subsidies to fossil fuels (alone) dwarf efforts toward CCD through climate finance. This paper examines the separation of discourses on private climate finance and subsidies, and opportunities to unlock climate-compatible investment by linking these two fields.
