XXXI UN ECLAC Regional Fiscal Policy Seminar

The 31st “Regional Fiscal Policy Seminar” organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) took place in Santiago, Chile on March 25th and 26th, 2019. The seminar is a vital forum for dialogue on fiscal policy in the region, bringing together international experts from authorities, international organizations, academia, civil society and the private sector. It was kicked-off with a presentation of this years “Panorama de Political Fiscal en America Latina y el Caribe” publication. Throughout the seminar, challenges for public finances in the context of global macroeconomic uncertainties were discussed, as well as questions relating to taxing the digital economy, the fiscal space of subnational governments and expenditure pressures deriving from the demographic-epidemiological transition. The seminar also included one session about the state and trends of green and health taxes in Latin America. Eike Meyer (GIZ) contributed to this session with a presentation on global developments in green fiscal policy.
