The Green Fiscal Policy Network organizes regional workshops and other events on topics related to the role of fiscal policies in the transition to an inclusive green economy. On 27-28 September, Italy, as the 2017 G7 Environment Presidency and co-chaired with Germany, a Second Meeting of the Platform for a Strategic Dialogue on Carbon Markets in Villa Celimontana at the Società Geografica Italiana.
In addition to the G7 countries, participants included approximately 70 officials coming from 9 non-G7 Countries and 10 International Organizations engaged in utilizing carbon markets.
The goal of the meeting was to facilitate an open dialogue between countries on subjects relating to carbon markets, to consolidate their form and quality, encouraging national and international sustainable development policies in order to support the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This followed on the Leaders’ Declaration issued at the G7 Bologna Environment Minister’ Meeting, convened 11-12 June 2017, which stated in point 23 that: “We recognize the important role of carbon pricing in tackling climate change, including market-based approaches …”
