The Netherlands hosted a high-level conference on carbon pricing and aviation taxes.
The aim of the conference was to provide an opportunity for further discussions on these important issues. Political representatives and experts from several European countries were present as well as officials and experts from the European Commission.
The conference covered three themes:
(i) Characteristics of national aviation taxes, which covered different types of flight ticket taxes in the EU, the obstacles and the policy choices that should be made when implementing it.
(ii) Taxing aviation fuels intra Europe, which focused on the legal and economic aspects.
(iii) A coordinated approach to carbon taxation in the ETS sectors, which was a session delivered in the form of a workshop that explored opportunities for a coordinated approach on improving carbon pricing.
