Why a carbon tax is needed and what it means for Singapore

12 May 2017 – Carbon taxes will be implemented in Singapore from 2019, levied on the largest direct emitters of greenhouse gases, such as power plants. When it comes to considering the appropriate size of the carbon tax, this article argues that a balance needs to be struck between meeting Singapore’s commitments under the Paris agreement and social considerations including effects on low-income households.
