8 July 2017 – The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry of Japan has begun studying measures to support and strengthen the domestic farming industry in preparation for the expected intensification of competition following the basic agreement of a trade deal between Japan and the European Union. Subsidies that will mainly target livestock and dairy farmers are being planned because of the increased competition expected from a rise in imports of pork and cheese products from Europe.
