13 July 2017 – In Australia a proposed new regulation on vehicle fuel efficiency standards was quickly withdrawn after it was met with heavy criticism. Under the proposed regulation, designed to help the government meet its Paris climate change commitments, all new cars sold in Australia by 2025 would have to meet a target of 105gCO2/km — down from 335gCO2/km in 2015. Distributors would face $100 fines for every extra gram of CO2 per kilometre not offset within three calendar years.
